This gives a table width of 80-100 cm. The ideal table for four people is therefore 120-160 cm long. For each additional person, 60 cm should be added (6 people: 180-220 cm). In general, the following dimensions apply: – comfortable seating: from 60 cm space per person – cramped seating: 50 cm space per person comfortable seating arrangement tight seating arrangement Calculate space

3. how much space should you plan for the dining table?

In addition to the actual table dimensions, a comfortable dining area requires enough space to stand up and sit down. To do this, add to the table width the chair depth including 30 cm clearance. Tables made of dark woods come into their own better when they are placed in a large space. In small rooms score white or tables made of light wood. Please note: Existing chairs should be before buying a table measured before buying the table to determine the appropriate table height! Also important is the distance between the floor and the table frame on which the table top rests. Even tall people with long legs should be able to sit comfortably at the new table. If the chairs have armrests, their height must also be measured so that you can fully approach the table.

4. what is the right dining table height?

The height of the dining table should depend on your own body height. As a rule, the height of the upper edge of the table is approx. 74cm to 78 cm. The DIN standard ISO 5970 specifies a dining table height of 76 cm for a body height of 173 cm. If the majority of your family or circle of friends is significantly above or below this, it is recommended to choose the table height higher or lower accordingly. Since most dining chairs have a seat height of 46 cm these are best suited to a table height of Table height of 76 cm. A distance of 30 cm between the seat and the lower edge of the table is recommended to ensure a back-friendly and comfortable sitting posture.

5. which table shape suits my room?

Basically, the shape of the dining table depends on the premises and the number of people. For example, a square table would hardly make sense for ten people, but in the appropriate size for two people perfectly adequate. The classic family table is still rectangular with one place on each of the short sides. If you like it more sociable and “equal”, choose a round table. But this is suitable for a maximum of six peopleAs the diameter of the table increases, so does the distance between the people sitting opposite. This often looks a bit uncomfortable. A extension function extends round tables to oval tables. Space for larger parties is then also available here. If corners and niches of a room are to be utilized, one better chooses square tables. These can also be placed against the wall to save space. Placed centrally, round tables often look more harmonious in small rooms more harmonioussquare tables, on the other hand too bulky.

  • How many people will typically use the table at the same time? So, what is the minimum number of people it should seat? This will help you determine the Minimum size of your dining table so that it can seat the regular number of people.

Our recommendations to help you find the right table size for your needs:

The right table length

When determining the right table length, you should base it on the number of people who will be using the dining table on a daily basis. However, if you have a large space available that can comfortably accommodate a larger table model, you can of course be generous with the length. As a rule, one calculates per person or per place setting 50 cm to 70 cm – depending on how narrow or comfortable you want to sit. However, it should be noted here that the table width also has an influence on the appropriate table length. If, for example, you decide on a particularly wide dining table, people can also be seated comfortably at both ends. If, on the other hand, it is a narrow dining table, the ends can no longer be occupied (or there would be less space on the long side if a person were to sit at the end). The width that should be considered per person also depends on the seating furniture that will be used. An upholstered armchair requires more space than a classic chair with straight chair legs. And the table model also affects the recommended table length. If it is a classic dining table with 4 table legs, then for the placement of people you can only consider the table length between the studs. Our dining table Bente. Although we are talking about only a few centimeters here, but even these can affect the comfort of sitting at the table. Our Minos column table. You can find more column tables here

The right table width

When it comes to the right dining table width, the following is usually considered 40 cm per place setting and a 10 cm to 20 cm wide strip in the middle of the dining table is best as a space for bowls, dishes or decorations.. The more space you allow for, the more convenient it is to place food on the table. This is true from a width of 90 cm (40 cm + 40 cm + 10 cm). Also, with a wider dining table, there is more of an opportunity to seat one or two people at the ends of the table when the long sides are already at full capacity. In terms of table width, also keep in mind that the wider the table, the farther away you are from the person sitting across from you. This could be a bit uncomfortable in some situations, such as a game night – especially if there are smaller children participating who should be able to reach the play area in the middle of the table.

The right table height

The right table height for you depends, firstly, on the seating furniture that will be used – especially if you already have chairs and are looking for a matching dining table. Secondly, your height is of course relevant in determining the appropriate table height. The standard dining table height is approximately 75/76 cm. This fits best for people of average height (about 1.65 m to 1.85 m), but is also comfortable for (slightly) taller or shorter people. However, if you and the other people in your household are significantly smaller or larger than average, then it makes sense to adjust the table size accordingly. Here are some guidelines for calculating the appropriate table height:

  • There should be approximately 27 cm to 32 cm between the top edge of the tabletop and the seat.
  • The seat height of chairs is usually between 45 cm to 48 cm.

So if you already have chairs and are now looking for the right dining table to go with them, simply sit down on one of your chairs and measure how high the seat height is and what distance between the seat height and the top edge of the table is right for you. Keep in mind that if you have arm chairs, the armrests may need to fit under the table as well. In such a case, sometimes a dining table without frames is more recommended.

The right table size for round dining tables

To determine the correct table size – i.e. diameter – for a round dining table, the following formula is useful: Diameter in cm x Pi รท 60 cm = number of possible seats at the table. The following applies:

  • Pi = 3.14
  • 60 cm = average space required for one person at the dining table

As you can see on the graphic, the space at the round dining table becomes narrower towards the center. For this reason, you should not place the individual people too close. As for the table height of a round dining table, the same rules apply here as for rectangular dining tables (see above). Are you still undecided which table size is right for you?
